JEE Main 2022 Counselling: Important Things to Know

Once the JEE Main results are declared, the JOSSA or Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA) India conducts the counselling process. In this process, the students have to register themselves and provide their choices for admission. Then, on the basis of several factors like number of seats available in an institution, merit, category and preferences of the candidates, cut offs for college admissions are released. If a student’s rank matches the cut off of its preferred college, they get admission in that college. Otherwise, they are allotted a college based on their ranks. If you want to know which colleges are participating in the JEE Main 2022, you can check the list of JEE Main 2022 participating institutions and make an informed decision.

#1 Do students get their preferred colleges in JEE Main counselling?

Many students wonder whether they will get the right college or the college of their choice based on their JEE Main rank. This is why we recommend students to check previous year cutoffs of their preferred colleges and if they think that they will be able to get a rank accepted by their dream colleges, they must fill them as their preferences.

JOSSA has made the process very simple and clear so that every student can have what they want. But, you must not forget that the number of seats in every college are limited and there could be a chance that you might not get admission in your first preference. Therefore, it is advised to fill as many choices as you can in the counselling.

#2 Which colleges are participating in JEE Main 2022 admissions?

31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 25 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and 28 Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) are amongst the colleges participating in JEE Main 2022. Many private and government institutions other than these types of colleges also consider JEE Main ranks for admission.

If we talk about NITs, institutions like National Institute of Technology, Agartala, National Institute of Technology, Andhra Pradesh, National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh, National Institute of Technology, Calicut, National Institute of Technology, Delhi

National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, National Institute of Technology, Goa, National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur etc are participating in the admission process through JEE Main.

IIITs like Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ranchi, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Nagpur, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Pune, Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhagalpur, Indian Institute of Information Technology Bhopal, Indian Institute of Information Technology Surat, and many more institutes are also participating in the admission process through JEE Main 2022.

If we talk about other private/government institutes then, Amity University, Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women, New Delhi, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi and institutions like Lovely Professional University also consider JEE Main ranks while admissions.

#3 What is the seat allotment process of JOSAA for JEE Main 2022?

As per the current information that we have, there will be 6 rounds of counselling. However, in the case of certain colleges the seats might fill up after one or two rounds and the counselling would not take place further for those colleges. But, in general, we assume 6 counselling rounds per college. The seat allotment will include three options:

Freeze, Float and Slide.

If a candidate is satisfied with the seat allotment and does not want to participate in the counselling rounds further, they can choose the freeze option and lock their seat.

If a candidate is satisfied with the seat allotment but will still like to consider other institutions during the further rounds of counselling, they can choose the float option

If a candidate has accepted the seat that has been allotted to them but they are willing to get admission into a higher preferred course in the same institute, they can choose the slide option
