Students are eagerly waiting for the JEE Main 2023 notification. According to the previous year patterns followed by NTA, it is expected that the 2023 JEE Main notification will be released in November 2022. However, students can estimate the eligibility criteria, tentative exam dates, and other important events related to JEE Main 2023 based on how things took place in 2022. Here, askIITians provides the young aspirants of JEE Main 2023 some idea how things will go on in 2023 so that students can at least start their preparations. We have based our predictions on the basis of JEE Main 2020-2022. 

 

What is JEE Main 2023 and why should students prepare for this exam? 

 

JEE or Joint Entrance Examination Main 2023 is an entrance conducted in India and abroad and allows students to get admissions into NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating through Central Seat Allocation Board. There are certain eligibility criteria for participating in this exam.

Documents/ Details to be filled in JEE Main Application Form 2023

 

You will require the following details/documents while filling out the application form for JEE Main 2023. 

 

  • Personal details like nationality, gender, category, minority status, date of birth, etc. will be needed. 
  • Details of your Class 10 and Class 12 like percentage, year of qualification, and exam code, will be required. 
  • You will also need to add your parents’ details like their name, and family income.  
  • Your Aadhar card number will be needed. You might also have to upload a valid ID proof.
  • You will need documents like a Photograph, Signature, Class 10 certificate, Class 12 mark sheet, Proof of Date of Birth, and Caste Certificate for SC, ST, and OBC. You must scan and upload them as required. 
  • Information like Aadhar card number, Passport, Domicile Certificate, Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI will also be needed to complete your JEE Main 2023 registrations. 

 

Every student must fill out the application form carefully. One should make sure that there are no mistakes in the form before submitting it. There is certain information that you cannot edit once you have submitted your form. These include your name, permanent address, email id, correspondence address, and mobile number. You must make sure that you fill in an email id that belongs to you and is working. You will need the email id to activate your web portal. Similarly, your mobile number should be personal as you might receive OTP on your phone. 

 

However, there might be some information that can be changed later on. For example, your personal details like nationality, gender, category, minority status, date of birth, etc. You might also be able to change your paper choice for JEE Main. So if you have filled the application form for Paper 1 but later on you decide that you need to change that and appear in Paper 2, you can do that. You might also be able to make changes to your academic details like Class 10 and Class 12 like percentage, year of qualification, exam code, your language of JEE Main paper and your category details.

JEE Main 2022 Eligibility Criteria

 

There are three main things to note for appearing in JEE Main - Age, Qualifying Examination, and Year of appearance in the Qualifying Examination. Let us understand all three main criteria. 

 

  • Age

There is no age limit as such for JEE Main for the students. To appear in JEE Main 2022, the candidate must have passed the Class 12 examination in 2020, and 2021, or should be appearing in the Class 12 2022 examination respectively. However, the institutions taking admissions on the basis of JEE Main scores might have their own age criteria. So, students must check that before applying for JEE Main so that later on, they do not have to face any issues because of their age. 

 

  • List of Qualifying Examinations 

A qualifying examination refers to the qualification a student must have in order to appear in the JEE Main. According to the JEE Main 2022 eligibility criteria, the following qualifying examinations were considered: 

  • Class 10+2 examination conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Higher Secondary Certificate Vocational Examination.
  • A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of at least 3 years duration.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
  • Candidates who have completed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class 12 Examination.
  • In case the Class 12 Examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier.

 

  • Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination

The year in which you appeared in any one of the above-given examinations also matters to be eligible for JEE Main. According to the JEE Main 2022 eligibility criteria:

  • Only those candidates who have passed the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2020, 2021, or those who are appearing in the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2022, are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2022.
  • Candidates who passed the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2019 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2023 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2022.

JEE Main 2023 Eligibility Criteria 

 

JEE Main 2023 notification has not been released by NTA yet. But, we can expect the eligibility criteria to be somewhat similar to the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2022. JEE Main 2023 tentative eligibility criteria is given below: 

 

  • Age

There is no age limit as such for JEE Main for the students. To appear in JEE Main 2023, the candidate must have passed Class 12 examination in 2021, 2022, or should be appearing in Class 12 2023 examination respectively. The students must check the eligibility criteria for the institution in which they want to study before applying for JEE Main so that later on, they do not have to face any issues because of their age. 

 

  • List of Qualifying Examinations 

A qualifying examination refers to the qualification a student must have in order to appear in the JEE Main. According to the tentative JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria, the following qualifying examinations can be considered: 

  • Class 10+2 examination conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.

  • Candidates who passed the Class 12/equivalent examination in 2020 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2024 or later might not be eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2023.

Frequently Asked Questions 

 

  • Does a candidate need to score 75% marks in Class 12 to be eligible for JEE Main? 

No, the 75% criterion is no longer applicable for JEE Main now. Anyone who satisfies the three eligibility criteria given above can participate in the examination. 

 

  • When will the JEE Mains be held in 2022?

JEE Mains will be held in two sessions in 2022. The first session is to be held in June 2022 while the second session is to be held in July 2022. 

 

  • Is it necessary to score good marks in Class 12 if you want to appear in JEE? 

There is no compulsion that a student has to score good marks in Class 12. But, if a student has decided to crack one of the toughest exams in India, they should be able to score better marks in Class 12 exams also since the syllabus for JEE Main and Class 12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are almost identical.
