IGNITE is a national level competition that is organized by the National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) besides various state education boards and others.
It basically aims at awarding the unique, first hand technological ideas and inventions of the school children. Encouraging the creativity and originality of children is the focal point of IGNITE. Held between September 1, 2012 and August 31, 2013, it obtained around 20836 applications from 301 districts in 33 states and union territories.
Around 38 students from 17 states and union territories have bagged the IGNITE 2013 award and will be honored on November 19 by former President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA).
Some of the award winning concepts which would be displayed at the site include:
- An automatic spike system near traffic signal
- A wheel-chair convertible to crutches
- A cell phone with inbuilt charger
