5 most important questions in Algebra for this year JEE Main and Advanced
If you think someone can predict 5 questions from Algebra in JEE then either he is making JEE paper this year or most likely making fool out of you.
A question might be wondering in your mind now, that what’s the need of reading this article?
The answer is, these may or may not be the questions coming directly in JEE paper but after doing these questions you will definitely feel confident about your concepts developed so far. The concepts discussed through JUST 5 questions here are very frequently coming in JEE papers as analysed over last 5 years.
These will definitely help you crack more than 5 questions in JEE mains and Advance.
Let us first note what all algebra covers
- Complex Number
- Quadratic Equations
- Series and Progressions (Includes Arithmetic, Geometric , Harmonic and Miscellaneous Series)
- Logarithms
- Permutations and Combinations
- Binomial Theorem
- Matrices and Determinants
- Means and Variance ( JEE – Mains Only )
- Linear Programming ( JEE – Mains only )
- Probability
- Vector
(The ones marked in black are having heavy weightage (at least 2 questions) as observed in last few years.)
From above, it can be concluded that algebra have 8 topics for Advance and 10 topics for JEE mains. Important thing to note is JEE does not ask questions discretely on one topic. A question is always based on multiple concepts from various topics.
The weightage for above mentioned topics is 30% which is quite high if I say you need 35% to qualify the exams. After hearing it, I can surely say most of you would be having this reaction.
Yes, it means if you study these topics in whole 2-year preparation time along with basic knowledge of some other topics, you can actually clear the cuts off very well. You can make yourself eliminated from those 9 lakh 90 thousand people approx. who are not able to make into IIT’s.
Let’s have a look on questions one by one
(Please see the concept analysis after solution as it is actually going to help to do similar questions this year. Please make sure you do all the questions before seeing the solutions. Do post your score in the comment once you have done it.)
Concepts Involved: – Co-relation between roots and coefficients
Harmonic and Arithmetic Progression.
These types of questions are very common in IIT-JEE mains and in advance similar question comes with inequality and little application of “Application of Derivative†as well.
Concept Involved: – Conditional Selection.
Along with it, conditional arrangement which is little bit more difficult can be seen this year.
Concept Involved: – Conditional Probability, Combination, Multiplication theorem on Probability.
This is a perfect question, similar to which you can see question coming in advance this year. Baye’s Theorem is another area which is sure shot in JEE every year. The key thing about probability question is they look difficult in first go but as soon as you see solution it gets too easy. Similar to what would have happened in this question.
Have a small break and some water before you start next question if you feel tired. I hope you are solving all questions before looking into solution and analysis.
Concepts Involved: – Vector, Dot Product, Cross Product, and Elimination.
This is sure shot question in JEE. Every year similar questions are coming where some relation between 2 or 3 vectors is given. Based on that you have to reach a conclusion to find relation as given in options. These questions purely depend on how well you can manipulate algebraic operations on vectors. These questions are not easy to crack as in advance as these are coming as more than one correct MCQ’s.
Concept Involved– Matrices, Composite Function, Determinants. At first look this question looks as if its better to leave. Though most of the times where you see composite function questions, it turns out to be very simple. At most of the times either it turns out to be constant function or periodic function.
Yes, you have completed all the questions. Some of you might be thinking that 1-2 questions were really easy. The answer is that in doing too hard we skip the actual questions that come in JEE paper. Secondly the pressure makes these questions tough. Even here also if I would not had provided solutions, then also these questions might have looked relatively difficult.
I wish all of you all the very best. Work hard and do prepare strategically in last few days. For any queries please comment and you can also post questions regarding preparation strategies and all.
Some of you might be interested in knowing about me. I am Harsh Patodia, Mathematics In House Expert at askIITians mentoring JEE aspirants. I did my graduation from IIT Roorkee. You can refer to
some of my self-study packages mentioned below for express preparation for IIT JEE. These are perfect for last minute revision and just before you start any topic.
thanks for sharing this one…its really useful for all students….when will this exam conduct this year?
I still remember when first time I came with the contact of algebra in Class VI, and this chapter was taught to a very basic level and which made me think its boring one. But when I joined catalyser, the way they taught this topic, I realize that algebra is the heart of mathematics specially Metrics and Quadratic equation and vector which are my now favorite topics in algebra. All the credit goes to catalyser for making me understand the importance of algebra.
