The latest news of the hour is coming straight from BITS Pilani campus whose 51 brilliant students have made it to the Google Summer of Code, GSoC this year.
These students from BITS Pilani have been selected from different BITS Pilani campuses the largest being selected from Goa campus with 30 students, followed by Pilani with 18 students, and Hyderabad with 3 students.
The news comes as a big achievement for the BITS Pilani campus and its students who have carved a special niche for themselves in the industry. BITS Pilani has been ranked 10 on the list of top institutes worldwide according to GSoC statistics published by Google.
GSoC or The Google Summer of Code is held annually by Google wherein it awards a stipend of USD 5500 to every student who successfully complete a requested free and open-source software coding project during the summer.
“One of the perks of being a BITSian is that there are so many seniors who have been selected by GSoC that you get a lot of advice,†Gaurav Narula, a student from BITS-Pilani K.K Birla Goa Campus, said commenting on his selection.
“It is not only about the technical knowledge but also about the time you are willing to dedicate to your project. It shouldn’t be about the money. It should be about the interest to learn and apply coding in the real world,†another student, Manoj Kumar, who has been selected for GSoC for the second time, said.
“The Google tag definitely helps. It gives me an edge over others in placements,â€ÂRohan Saxena who is currently pursuing his 4th year, said.
