Students of IIT-Kharagpur Receive Most Number of Job Offers—the Institute Sets Record

IIT-Kharagpur is in news once again for all the good reasons. The institute has recently set a record for the most number of students securing jobs from any IIT institute in India during a recruitment drive.

The official report of the record was announced by the representatives on Wednesday.
As revealed by the representatives, over 1,000 students from IIT Kharagpur have accepted job offers by major companies during the first round of the recruitment drive that ended in December lately.

IIT-Mumbai and IIT-Delhi ranked 2^nd and 3^rd respectively on the list with 900 and 750 offers accepted by their students. On the other hand, IIT-Kanpur is ranked 4^th on the list with around 700 offers accepted by its students.

The representatives from IIT believe that the number of students accepting job offers at IIT Kharagpur in just one phase is the highest ever reported.

Major companies like Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Shell, Deutsche Bank, ITC, Schlumberger, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Abbott and EXL, start-ups like Flipkart and Housing.com participated in this recruitment drive and made job offers to students.

The highest package offered to an IITian was made by a US-based company with an annual package of $ 1.25 lakh (Rs 77 lakh). On the other hand, the highest domestic package was Rs 37 Lakh offered to an IITian.

Interestingly, recently introduced dual degree programs (Financial Engineering and Engineering Entrepreneurship) have been incredibly successful as over 85% students from this program have been secured job offers.

“The programs not only demonstrated acceptability by the industries, but projected the vision of IIT-Kgp for launching novel initiatives,” Prof Sudhir Kumar Barai, in-charge of training and placement, IIT-Kharagpur, was quoted as saying.
