  1. I’m currently studying in this college. My advice to juniors is do not choose this crap of a college if you are getting branches like Chem, Bio, Meta, Civil…. They are pretty f***ed up. Worst faculty. Majority of them and the admin are highly uncooperative. Most of the time the student council and the admin are at war. Well the worst part is the placements. Core placements in these branches are less than 40%. Including IT jobs it might go upto 50%. Most of the lab equipments are outdated and rusty. Usually many students feel discriminated between telugulites and non telugulites by the faculty. Guys my advice is if u r getting good branches in your native state colleges please go for it. Now the fee has also doubled i believe. So there is nothing good about this college being Institute Of National Importance.

    1. Is that descrimination (between telugulites and non telugites) leads to suffer in grades ….since I am from U.P. and getting warangal metallurgy..

          1. Most of the faculty are comfortable communicating in telugu than in english. So telugulites enjoy this comfort.

    2. Hii..my bro has rank 5168. He is getting chemical engg in NIT-W in first counselling. Please help what to do..what is the scope in chemical engg for placements, Do IT companies discriminate chemical students when they offer placements in NIT-W ?? He actually filled chemical as 11th choice & in all above 10 choices he filled ECE< CS< EEE <IT in all 3 top nits- trichy , warangal & suratkal..but for these branches ranks cuttoff is under 2000. Now obviously he can't take anything other than chemical ..please please suggest

      1. Chemical Engg placements are not good here. But since this is just the first round its very likely that he is going to get other top sought branches like mech or EEE(See previous years cut off ranks to get an idea). So wait for it. And companies will not differentiate. They only take those who r fit.
My suggestion is, he has a good rank, there is great chance that he may get a nicer branch in further rounds. All the best.

        1. but in last year cut-offs , for all eee, mech, cs, it braches in these colleges the rank was under 2000-3000 . Ab now, there is only 10% chance that he could get in any of those & just because he filled nit jaipur & all others- cs, elec etc below he doesn’t even have that option to go in any below nits . I am really afraid for chemical engg i think only this is the one that he would get. Can u describe what is the chance of internal sliding if he tries to get good cgpa in 1st year. Please suggest something and can you give your email id or fb id so that he will contact you if he has any doubts about this college. Please !!

          1. Well every fresher thinks about branch sliding. Well go through this rule for official info on it. (Page no. 13)
            http://www.nitw.ac.in/nitw/Scheme&Syllabus-2012/B.Tech%20Rules%20and%20Regulations.pdf

The applicants may be allowed a change of branch, strictly in the order of merit, subject to the limitation
that the present strength of students in any Branch at most can be increased by THREE.
            a) Subject to the condition that the student strength in a particular branch from which transfer is made,
does not fall below 85% of the existing strength.
            b) For any reason, if a student is denied change of branch, no other student with a lesser CGPA should
be permitted for change into that Branch.

Usually the cutoff CGPA for a branch change to CS, Mech, ECE,EEE at the end of Second semester is 9.0 and above.(For CS and ECE it goes as high as 9.5 varies with competition). Branch change for , Chem, Civil will be around 8.5 and above.(This is also subject to variation. Some of my friends made it with cgpa less than 8.5 😀 ) This is highly competitive.

          2. Lock your choices by giving preference to branch, not just college.
For now have patience and watch the further rounds before making decision to join here. AIR 5000 is pretty good rank.

          3. hi @reactor i want to know how is the placement of mca there ?? my sis got mca in warangal ans she is confused whether to take it or go for surathkal …
please give some suggestions regarding this

  2. @askiitians: please verify the claims of someone about some institute before posting. Because NITW faculty always equally promoted every student in academics , research n other activities. “Discrimination” is very strong word and I never found it in my B.Tech (2014 Batch) life in NITW, though I am from Madhya Pradesh.
I think everywhere in India faculty have privilege to talk to students in their mother tongue. Telugu students are generally poor in English and Hindi, are from rural background, this privilege boost their confidence, but in no way it discriminated other non Telugu speaking students.. In Fact when I was in MANIT , faculty used to talk in Hindi to a student who is not comfortable in English. N in north India campus life and language is Hindi… Though it is not same with NITW, here in between students also, generally English is spoken, NITW truly reflects multi culture institute.
About placements, only in 2013-14 placements were low as all industries have a watch on 2014 general assembly elections, so all over India placements were not good, though thanks to NITW’s reputation in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, that industries of Andhra and Karnataka always visit it for placements.
Also comparison should drawn between institutes in India about infrastructure.
Student’s council of NITW is democratic body(very few students’ council in “Institute of national importance” are elected by students through vote), that’s why it always try to get best facilities from institute, this lead to some stand off between administration and council, but overall result is very beneficial for students.
NITW always matches International standard in education and campus life. Unfortunately not all students are willing to utilise them (NIT’s & IIT’s), though MHRD spent lot public money in these institutes and students sleep in their hostel criticising education system.

  10. Little irrelevant, but worth reading.

Currently, I am studying Advanced Communication Systems in NIT Warangal, so I am qualified enough to answer this question.

First of all, since you are talking about Communication, you must be from ECE background. There are two more streams in NIT Warangal for ECE grads, VLSI and Electronics Instrumentation(EI). VLSI should be your first choice. If You don’t get VLSI, opt for EI. I will give you the reasons in my discussion.

You may think EI is not core for ECE grads, but if you want to get jobs in core ECE, VLSI or EI are better choices than ACS. Let me talk about placement statistics for 2016–18 batch.

    VLSI: 17 Internship+2 Placed. Out of 19

    EI: 10 internship+ 4 Placed. Out of 14

ACS: 9 Internship+ 4 Placed. Out of 21. Remaining UNPLACED.

Students are interning in Intel, Dell, Analog Devices, Synaptics, Xilinx, Synopsys, etc.

Students have in placed in C-Dot, Intel, Sandisk, etc.

Coming to faculty: ACS faculty are really bad. They wont give good grades and as a result you may not be able to sit in different companies like Qualcomm, Analog, Mediatek. On the other hand, EI and VLSI students get excellent grades and almost all of them are eligible to sit for all companies. ACS faculty will screw you, disturb you, give you useless work to waste time. Barring a few, all faculties will demotivate you and try to ruin every bit of confidence you have. VLSI and EI faculty are much better in these respects.

Now, talking about the subject. ACS has no scope in market. So, companies that come will want you to have knowledge of VHDL and Verilog. These subjects are taught in both VLSI and EI, not in ACS. So, even after getting poor grades, you have to study other subjects for placements, if you are in ACS.

To conclude, if you are hell-bent on joining NIT Warangal, go for VLSI or EI.
