CBSE Class X school exam only for board loyalists

Vineet Joshi, Director of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has announced that according to the CBSE education policy, only those students can be allowed to take school-based Class X exams who intend to continue with the CBSE board in Class XI. All CBSE schools have been made of ensuring that students who intend to take admission in Class XI in state syllabus schools appear for CBSE’s board-based exam for Class 10.

CBSE Class X students who take school-based exams find it difficult to get admission in government schools or schools of other education boards because they do not appear for board exams.

Recently, the CBSE had declared that it had analysed the data of exam results for the last two years and did not see any marked differences between the results of the CBSE Class 10 board exams and school-based Class X exams.  This made many CBSE-affiliated schools to ask their students to opt for only school-based exams. This proves to be a problem for students who want to switch their education board or join government schools for admissions in Class XI as they were asked to present CBSE board exam results only.

In Kerala, about 50% CBSE students join state syllabus schools after Class X. In 2013, out of 70,000 CBSE students applied for Class XI admission in state schools. 35,283 students got accepted, out of which only 742 had taken school-based Class 10 exam. This reflected in the options CBSE Class X students chose in 2014. Out of 70,023 CBSE Class 10 students in the state, 63,477 took board-based exams while only 6,543 students took school-based exams.
