IIT-BHU gears up to make its students more employable

New Delhi:Indian Institute of Technology of Banaras Hindu University, also known as IIT-BHU, has decided to restructure its academic curriculum of its undergraduate courses to make its students more employable. Under the new system, students will study in an environment which will be similar to their future workplace.
The curriculum will be more project-oriented and will involve more practical work.

A committee was formed the new syllabus of the engineering courses of the IIT-BHU. The committee has already prepared a draft of the new syllabus which will have to be passed by the IIT senate members before its details can be finalized and it can be implemented.

The new syllabus will not only emphasize more on the practical work but also include courses on Humanities. Students will be able to choose these Humanities courses as part of their compulsory subjects as well as their elective subjects in their engineering degree programs.Under the new regulations, the supplementary exam system will also be terminated.  These exams were held during the conversion of IT-BHU to IIT-BHU.To be able to implement the new courses, IIT-BHU is spending about Rs 25 crore to modernize its laboratories, provide high-performance computing system facilities and replace its machinery and equipments. An additional fund of Rs 30 crore will also be spent to develop a Centralised Instrumentation Facility inside the campus, where research work and projects will be conducted.
