Tips to Focus on JEE Exam Preparation!
The biggest stumbling block in cracking JEE for most of the IIT aspirants is that their mind keeps wandering off when they study. They are not able to concentrate on the topic in hand and take much more than the necessary time to actually learn it. Lack of focus also means that you forget whatever you learn quickly too. Here are simple concentration techniques and tips which can help you focus on your IIT JEE preparation or school exams better:
- Know Your Enemies: The first step to find a solution to anything is identifying your pressure points. Once you know the specific reason why you are not able to concentrate on you studies, it will become easier to overcome it. If you are too tired, a 20-minute power nap may do the trick. If you are hungry, munch on some healthy snacks. If you are getting distracted by social media addiction, reward yourself with 15 minutes of Facebook time after every topic you do.
- Eat and Sleep Properly: I very well know that this is not a health and fitness column. But most of the serious JEE aspirants try so hard to focus on their academics that they start compromising on the time they spend to eat food or sleep. But your body and mind needs nutrition and rest to be able to grasp difficult concepts better. The pre-exam night-long study may work for a day but don’t make it a habit. Also, make sure you eat energy-rich foods and keep your hands off junk food that sap your energy.
- Love Your Study Plan: Take time to compare your school, JEE Main and JEE Advanced syllabuses and come up with a proper schedule for all your subjects. Revise them through the week depending on what you are studying in class, and tests and exams that are scheduled from time to time. Follow the D-W-M-Y revision method . Look at your study plan daily to see how much you have achieved for the day, as per your schedule. Reward yourself for completing your daily schedule.
- Learn Meditation: Scientific studies have proved that meditation techniques improve your attention span and ability to concentrate in the long run. Just 10 minutes of complete silence (inner and outer) can help you cover more for the rest of the day.
- Put on Some Music: If you do not have a separate study room, you might want to wear headphones. Low-volume music may help you solve problems better and make study time seem less like a chore. Find out what works for you – deep soulful music or light pop instrumentals. Avoid ghazals or lyrical songs that might act as distracters for you.
- Caffeine for Early Mornings & Late Nights: A cup of hot coffee or masala chai helps to shake off your sleepy self and be more alert.
