During the JEE Main 2015 which was being conducted in the offline mode on April 4, an engineering aspirant was caught cheating in the exam in Kanpur. Vikas Gupta had a camera and a mobile phone hidden in his shirt and was using them to take help of someone in Allahabad to solve questions in the exam. According to some other versions of the story, the person who was actually solving questions was right outside KDMA school in Barra where Vikas was appearing for the exam.
Kanpur police has arrested Vikas and has sent a team to Allahabad to search for the kingpin of the ‘solver gang’ and his aides who help perpetrate such exam frauds. Police told the media, “It was noticed that a student taking his JEE Main exam had his head tilted to his shirt and was whispering during the exam. When the invigilator frisked him, he found that he had a microsim and a mobile device with Bluetooth connectivity which he was using to write his answers. The school principal registered a case against him in the police station and he was caught along with his mobile phone as proof.”
Vikas told the police that he was attending coaching classes for the entrance exam for last one year. During this period, he came across Monu who lived in Allahabad. Monu offered him that he could help him clear the exam for Rs 3 lakh. Vikas thought that the offer was good enough and closed the deal with Monu. As part of the deal, Monu had asked Vikas to submit his orginial Class 12 marksheet to him which he would have got back after paying the money to him.
Two more arrests have been made in the case – one is a cousin of Vikas, and the other person is known to him too. Monu is still absconding. Monu had been meeting Vikas at the MNNIT gate in Allahabad or at Kakadeo in Kanpur. Hence, the police suspect that he could either be a student or an ex-student of MNNIT. It is still looking at the possibility that Monu be a part of an organized gang instead of just working alone, and that other students might have fallen victims to such a racket.ÂÂ
