IIT Chhatisgarh, Goa, Palakkad, and Tirupathi are all ready to admit students from this year. It means that the number of IIT seats is all set to rise from 9,784 in 2014 to 10,500 in 2015 – about 7% more than last year.
Seat matrix at these respect IITs are:
- IIT Goa and IIT Chhatisgarh are offering 90 seats in all – 30 each in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering.
- IIT Palakkad and IIT Tirupati offering 120 seats – 30 each in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
Palakkad IIT and Tirupati IIT will be mentored by IIT Madras. They will start functioning from a temporary campus. IIT Palakkad will function out of the campus of Ahalya Group of Educational Institutions in Walayar. The mess, housekeeping and security of the campus will be looked after by the Ahalya Group. IIT Tirupati will flag off from the campus of Chadalawada Group of Institutes in Tirupati. The girls hostel is situated inside the campus while boys will loves at the 21st century Gurukul near Alpiri (situated at the foothills of Tirumala).
Goa IIT classes will begin at the Goa Engineering College (GEC) campus at Farmagudi, Ponda. It will be mentored by IIT Bombay. IIT Chhatisgarh will be mentored by IIT Hyderabad. It is still not clear where it will function from.
Next year, IIT Jammu and IIT Dhanbad will start functioning too – adding more seats for those who qualify JEE Advanced 2016.
