Dream Companies betting on Non-IITs for Recruiting Talent
New Delhi: Normally, it is the IIT placements that talk about crore plus salary packages and dream companies. That is why, almost all engineering aspirants in India try hard to get into the hallowed gates of the IITs. But this year, placement trends are seeing some unusual movements as more and more top recruiters are hiring students from non-IIT engineering colleges and offering them attractive pay packages too.
At Delhi Technological University (DTU), the highest salary offered in 2015 placement season is $190,000 (Rs 1.25 crore) per annum – up from $118,000 (Rs 77.9 lakh). Google was the company that made the top offer at DTU this year. Last year, Epic Systems was the one to offer best pay package at DTU.

Other premium engineering colleges out of the IIT system that are seeing a jump up to 49% in their average salary packages YOY (year-on-year) are: BITS Pilani, NIT Trichy, MNNIT Allahabad and VIT in Vellore.
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani started its placement season earlier this year and has seen a jump of 48.4% jump in the average salary package. Last year, the average pay package offered to its students was Rs 8.67 lakh per annum. The average pay package for the current batch is Rs 12.87 lakh so far.  G Balasubramanian, Chief Placement Officer at BITS-Pilani said, “This year, more dream companies have visited our campus which has led to the increase in the average salary packages offered to our students.†More companies have been visiting BITS campuses in Goa and Dubai as well.
Placement trends show that number of jobs offered per company has increased at BITS Pilani this year and returning companies are offering better pay packages too. Some of the top recruiters at BITS Pilani campuses have been Amazon, Oracle and Cisco that have extended about 90 offers to BITSians till now.
Michael P Ross, Global Head of HR at Visa International, said, “Visa is looking forward to attract talent from best universities in India – including that from non-IITs. We have a target of hiring 1,000 employees this year for Bangalore Technology Developer Centre.â€Â
At NIT Trichy, Amazon is offering up to Rs 29.96 lakh for certain roles this year.
At VIT University, as many as five companies have hired 1,000+ students each – Accenture (1,472), Cognizant (1,914), Infosys (1,456), Tata Consultancy Services (1,864), and Wipro (1,241). Some of the companies that offered pay packages above Rs 10 per annum included Paypal, Flipkart, Visa, Microsoft, Practo, Cisco and InMobi. Paypal recruited as many as 13 VITians at a package of Rs 20 lakh each.
At MNNIT too, average salary package for students has gone up by about 25% to Rs 8.6 lakh. About 30% more students have been placed this year than last year.
