BITS Pilani Campus Life Revolves Around Laptop & Internet!
No, seriously! If you think that a typical bright BITS Pilani student follows his parents’ advise, he would:
- Wake up at 5:30 AM,
- Take a cold water bath (that Indian parents tell you the benefits of all the time),
- Meditate and do Yoga for an hour,
- Attend all the classes and extra classes,
- Finish up assignments,
- Head to library to delve more into the topics taught that day,
- Always plan their next move well, and
- Sleep at 9 pm sharp.
Unfortunately that is not the case. Here’s a real picture of what a typical day in the life of a BITS Pilani student looks like:
- Wake up at 11:30 AM,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Download the new episode of Game of Thrones, Suits or the new cool thing and watch it,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Eat lunch and crib about mess food,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Attend afternoon classes or labs,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Play Dota (or the new cool game), regret wasting time on it, and then play it some more,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Eat dinner and crib about mess food,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Watch out movie and hang out with friends,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Eat at ANC,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Give friend an actual bash on their birthdays,
- Play Dota,
- Check out Facebook and other social media sites and internet forums,
- Go to sleep around 2:30 to 3 am.
Just give a BITSian a laptop and an internet connection (with or without food) and he can spend the entire life in front of it without complaining.
The only variation in their daily routine can be observed during exam days when they:
- Wake up at 11.30,
- Find what portion they need to study, who can explain it to them, where they can find it etc,
- Try to study but go off to sleep,
- Beat themselves up for sleeping and then quickly grab dinner,
- Start panicking at 9 pm,
- Sit down to last minute ruttafication,
- Eat at ANC or have a cup of coffee at Bru,
- Mug some more,
- Sleep at 4 am and ask your friend to wake you up at 7 am.
P.S.: BITS Pilani students do well in life. So, please spare the lecture.
This is hilarious. Who wrote this anyway? You seem like a funny guy. 😛
Let me just point out some of the few loopholes of this desperate attempt of discourage people from joining BITS:
1. Most of the parents expect us to wake up around 7 or 7.30
2. Cold water bath at as low as (-4) degrees in winters? seriously, your mother must really hate you if she wants you to fall sick. Most of the parents here are protective or overprotective, so they always tell us to wear a lot of sweaters and take hot water baths.
3. Meditate and do yoga regularly? I could agree for a few parents, but generalizing this? Just WOW!
4. Most of the assignments are evaluative, so we anyways do them, one way or the other, even if its at the last moment. If they are not, except for a few rare teachers, noone asks us to submit them
5. Sleep at 9pm? What kind of family do you belong to again? XD
6. Rarely anyone here regularly follows anything other than facebook. Those who do are mostly developers or coders, whom you get jealous about after reading about getting very high paying jobs and perhaps planned to write this post.
7. And seriously, what does the heart symbol in the picture depict? Chatting about love? This is an engineering college with sex ratio of 1:8, Just do the math and find out maximum how many couples can there be. Yeah about 12.5% of the population. And most of them too are sensible to meet up rather than chat the whole time. 😛
8. The new cool thing? If, according to you, all of us choose series like that, then where is the coolness or someone to show it off to? And anyways, isn’t that true about almost all hostel colleges with a working DC?
9. Those who crib about the food, dont eat in the mess regularly anyways, so cross off that point also.
10. DOTA? If you were actually a BITSian, you would know that out of the 50% of us who find time to play these games throughout 4/5 years, which is less than half, about 75% play either CS or COD, then there’s about 15% AOE, then the rest are DOTA and others, not that its not a good game, but there are a lot of prerequisites before one plays that game.
11. Hang out with friends, woah, sorry to commit that crime officer! XD
12. For your information, a lot of us wake sleep early!
13, We usually don’t bother that much about exams. Besides, we have a relative grading system, so if half of us get bad grades, the other half gets good grades and thus study a lot. Hence your assumption that we don’t study is so not true.
All said and done, you are either a very funny guy or are highly misinformed. Whatever be the case, you haven’t experienced the true BITSian life. Too bad for you.
This article is simply compiled after reading the answers to a question on quora about BITSian life. Pure plagiarism and nothing original. Sad.
