After IIT Bombay, now it is Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences (BITS), Pilani which has joined edX online courses. A non-profit American enterprise, edX is an online platform found by the Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to offer interactive online classes to students worldwide. These classes are offered by best universities of the world and are known for innovative pedagogy, rigorous curriculum and use of cutting-edge technologies.
For the first time, BITS-Pilani Hyderabad campus will integrate online courses offered by MIT, Stanford University and Wharton University in its B.Tech and M.Tech courses. It means that while part of the B.Tech curriculum or M.Tech course syllabus will be taught by professors on campus, students will cover rest of it through the edX Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform.
BITS Pilani is in one of the premier engineering institutes of India, considered to be at par with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Armed with edX technology and tools, it has now stepped to be step-in-step with IIT Bombay, which has emerged as the preferred IIT for more than 60% candidates in the Top 100 rank holders list of JEE Advanced 2014.
Besides the IITs, IIM Bangalore has become an active partner of edX and will now offer its selected management courses to learners worldwide through virtual classes.
