New IITs have always been seen doubted and griped about. IIT Indore, which flagged off in 2009, has proved itself with hitting the nail in its third placement report. Gaurav Agarwal, a final year student of B.Tech (Computer Science) at IIT-I, has been hired as a software engineer by Google at a salary package of Rs 1.7 crore.
Pradeep Mathur, Director of IIT Indore, said, “We have come a long was as an institute. In 2011, highest salary package received by our students was Rs 65 lakh and today, it is almost Rs 2 crore!â€Â
Out of a batch of 115 students passing out this year, 97 had registered for campus placements. 94 of them have already been hired by leading companies like Microsoft, Snapdeal, Flipkart and Mahindra amongst others. Other students have either opted to pursue higher education or start their own ventures.
Last year, the Jaipur girl Astha Agarwal from IIT Bombay was the one to bag the highest salary package of Rs 2.1 crore among the IITians. She was hired by Facebook. This year, Gaurav is the one to receive the fattest pay packages for an IITian yet. A resident of Bhilai, he is 21 years old and is the first engineer in his family. He would be joining the company at Mountain View, California.
