New Delhi: Raichur is in Karnataka – 409 km from the state capital Bengaluru. The IIT Allotment Action Committee (IAAC) is demanding an IIT for the district and has announced to ‘Fast Unto Death’ from today – November 16, 2015 for it.
PM Modi led Union Government has announced setting up of several new IITs and the IAAC hopes to exert pressure on it to sanction one for the Raichur too. The Committee President, Basavaraj, said, “We have called a meeting of all the MLAs, MLCs and the MPs from the Hyderabad-Karnatak region at the Legislatures’ House in Bengaluru on November 18. We will also invite Leader of Opposition Jagadish Shettar and BJP State unit President Pralhad Joshi to attend the meeting. We are also planning to meet Chief Minsiter Siddaramaiah.â€Â
In the meeting, strategies and plans will be discussed to realize the cause. Decisions will also be taken regarding the next modus operandi and how to stage agitations and protests inside and outside the Legislature for it.
IAAC plans to urge the CM to conduct a Cabinet Ministers’ Meeting on the issue too. IAAC is also pondering upon whether it should send a delegation to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and apprise him about its views on the cause.
