New Delhi: The famous Australian University – University of Melbourne – is quite popular with the most prestigious institutions of India. IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc) are all partnering it to offer new joint PhD scholarship programme from 2014.The University of Melbourne has been ranked at #28 by Times Higher Education Rankings worldwide. QS World University Rankings 2013 also ranked it at #31. In engineering subjects too the university was mostly ranked in Top 30-35 universities worldwide.
The Melbourne-India Postgraduate Program that has been inked states that Aus$ 3 million (about 17 crore 84 lakh rupees) will be offered as scholarship to 16 PhD scholars along with the support for research exchanges over the next three years.
It is expected that allowing Indian and Australian students to undertake high-quality research will help both the countries to tackle global challenges such as dealing with environmental and social issues and finding solutions to technological needs.
The programme will be open to PhD students at the University of Melbourne as well as those enrolled at IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur or IISc. All students will have access to the co-supervision by the faculty of the institution(s) of other country.
