21-year old Vatsalya Singh Chauhan has become the apple of the eye of not only his family but the entire neighborhood. A final-year student at IIT Kharagpur, he has bagged a job at Microsoft in the US at an attractive package of Rs 1.02 crore per annum.
Vatsalya’s father Chandra Kant has a small welding shop in the Khagaria village of Bihar. “I took an education loan of Rs 3.5 lakh from the bank for his IIT admissionâ€Â, revealed the proud father.
Vatsalya scored AIR #382 in the IIT JEE exam and chose Computer Science as his preferred engineering stream. It is hard to believe that his boy scored just 75% in his Class 12 board exams and comes from a Hindi-medium government school in Bihar. Kota in Rajasthan, the JEE coaching hub, was the place where he turned to a new leaf.
Poor performance at the coaching institute there had almost made him quit his IIT dream but for the two teachers who mentored and motivated him to step up to the challenge.
Chandra Kant said, “My 20-year long dedication and prayers have been answered. My son is going to the US and will make India proud.†He also said shared that Vatsalya has two more brothers and three sisters…and he is going to send one of his daughters to Kota for medical entrance exam preparation too.
