Would IIT Tag Win Me a Girl?
Indian parents often seem to fish for IITians for their daughters and tell their sons that IITs are the most-trusted route to find a lovely rich wife for themselves. But is this true? Let’s see what how People reacted to the question:
- Anushree says, “I think most girls would love to have a smart IITian brother.†😛
- Sachin smirks, “I don’t know about girls but aunts in the range of 40-50 years of age are certain crazy for IITians.â€Â
- Sofia throws in, “The three magic words that girls want to hear are NOT ‘I’m from IIT!’. There are things like charming personality, inner beauty, talent and humour that takes precedence when it comes to winning the heart of a girl.â€Â
- Sriraman Jha coyly says, “During Mood Indigo 2008 – much famous cultural fest of IIT Bombay, two good looking girls kept snigger me throughout the evening. But as soon as they learnt I was an IITB student, they went out with me for some booze and joined me in my room at night.†Then he warns us not to fall for his version of story as it is what he only dreamt about. “To get a real girl, you have to be presentable, a good conversationalist and really need to care for her. Being an IITian might be a redeeming quality for your in-laws (as Chetan Bhagat says) but not certainly for a potential girlfriend or wifeâ€Â, he adds.
- Few Ex-IITians admitted that the qualification never worked in their faour to score a point in their love life. One of them, Anurag Mehra, advised, “If you are an aspirant, you won’t get too far by believing that you can score girls with your ‘IIT’ status. You should really be interested in what you are studying and be passionate about what you want to do in future. IITs have a rigorous system to keep you out of gates otherwise. So, keep your hormones in check and focus on your studies!â€Â
- Joy Mukherjee agrees. He says, “It is an illusion just like rare IIT feats like foreign internships, over-a-crore salary packages, and that you won’t need to study once you crack your JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. You don’t get girls as an incentive of being able to manage an IIT seat for yourself. In fact, odds are that good-looking girls probably will think that you are too nerdy or geeky, and/or proud. But if you do find a girl who is in love with you because you are an IITian, hard luck man! I think she will be too shallow for you to waste time with her.â€Â
If you are looking forward to marry the girl in which you fallen in love with, you will need to be more than IITian and be a good human being for her. In cases of arranged marriages though, being an IITian with a high-profile job does earn you brownie points with the match-makers and all your potential in-laws.
