JEE Advanced 2015 Exam Analysis: Toughest one since 2005
May 24, 2015 was one of the biggest days for the engineering exam aspirants as they appeared for JEE Advanced 2015 exam for admission to the prestigious IITs. Conducted by IIT Bombay this year, the standard of JEE Advanced paper went up by a few notches.
Overall Review:JEE Advanced 2015 paper was toughest since 2005 – rated tougher than even the subjective-type papers IIT JEE used to dole out earlier.
The objective pattern of the exam was tweaked this year to screen IIT aspirants thoroughly and the paper was quite lengthy. There were 120 questions asked in all (60 questions worth 264 marks in Paper I and 60 questions worth 240 marks in Paper II) which were worth a total of 504 marks.
The exam format was tough as it employed too much negative marking. The negative marking scheme was so devastating that if you marked responses to 3 MCQs and got only 2 of them correct, you could end up getting -2 marks.
On top of it, problems asked in the JEE Advanced exam 2015 were quite tough and time consuming – typical IIT type. Students needed to have a knack for time management, good memory and the ability to solve tricky problems without losing their self-confidence to really crack the exam.
Review of JEE Advanced Paper 1 exam
Toughest ever, JEE Advanced Paper 1 exam 2015 had very high negative marking. There were no questions with single correct answers this year. Since the paper was very lengthy, most students could not solve all the questions.
Each of the sections in the exam had following type of questions:
- 8 Integer questions: Each question was worth 4 marks. There was no negative marking in this section.
- 10 questions with more than 1 correct response(s): Each question was worth 4 marks. For each incorrect response, students got -2 marks in this section.
- 2 Matrix Match type questions: Each question was worth 2 marks. For each incorrect response, students got -1 mark in this section.
Physics:
Physics questions were relatively easier and it was the most scoring part of the JEE Advanced exam 2015.
- Out of 8 Integer questions, only 1 or 2 were tough and rest were easy.
- From the 10 multi-correct MCQs, 4 were easy, 5 had moderate difficulty level and 1 was tough.
- All the Matrix match type questions were quite easy for candidates who had studied NCERT textbooks well.

Chemistry:
Presenting a balance of easy and tough questions, Chemistry had at least 3 questions that required good memory.
- Out of 8 Integer questions, only 2 were tough and 6 were easy.
- From the 10 multi-correct MCQs, 5 were easy, 3 had moderate difficulty level and 2 were tough.
- 1 Matrix match type question was easy while the other one needed careful study of the question.

Maths:
Toughest section in the Paper 1 exam, Math questions were tricky, conceptual and were epitome of true IIT-level questions. Questions from Conic Sections were really difficult according to some students.
- Out of 8 Integer questions, 2 were tough, 3 had moderate difficulty level and 3 were easy.
- From the 10 multi-correct MCQs, 7 had moderate difficulty level and 3 were tough.
- Both the Matrix match type question were quite tough and time-consuming.

Review of JEE Advanced Paper 2 exam
A nightmare for IIT aspirants, JEE Advanced Paper 2 exam 2015 was designed especially to screen out students who were crystal clear on their concepts and have quite high problem solving skills.
Each of the sections in the exam had following type of questions:
- 8 Integer questions: Each question was worth 4 marks. There was no negative marking in this section.
- 8 questions with more than 1 correct response(s): Each question was worth 4 marks. For each incorrect response, students got -2 marks in this section.
- 4 Paragraph type questions: Each question was worth 4 marks. For each incorrect response, students got -2 marks in this section.
 Physics:
Physics questions were the toughest ones on JEE Advanced Paper 2 question paper. It was difficult for average students to build up a positive score in this section.
- Out of 8 Integer questions, 2 were easy, 3 had moderate difficulty level and 3 were tough.
- From the 8 multi-correct MCQs, 2 were easy, 1 had moderate difficulty level, 3 were tough and 2 questions were very tough.
- To solve the 2 Paragraph type questions, if you didn’t need to be a genius, you at least needed to be quite creative and have great experience in solving such problems.
Subject-wise and Format-wise weightage of Physics section of Paper 2 exam:
With a good balance of easy and tough questions, candidates would have been able to score Chemistry section in the Paper 2 exam if they started off with this section.
- Out of 8 Integer questions, 2 were easy, 2 had moderate difficulty level and 4 were tough.
- From the 8 multi-correct MCQs, 5 were easy, 2had moderate difficulty level, and only 1 was tough.
- One of the Paragraph type questions was easy while the other one was tough.
Subject-wise and Format-wise weightage of Chemistry section of Paper 2 exam:
Maths:
The maths problems were tricky and only math lovers would have enjoyed the experience of solving the paper.
- The distribution of the Integer type questions would be 4 easy, 4 mediocre and 2 tough.
- Among the 8 Multi Correct MCQs, 3 were of mediocre level, 5 tough, including the very tough ones too.
- Both the paragraphs tested the students’ ability to solve not-so-tough but tricky questions.
Maths questions were quite tricky and were a challenge for even those who really love the subject.
- Out of 8 Integer questions, 4 were easy, 4 had moderate difficulty level and 2 were tough.
- From the 8 multi-correct MCQs, 3 had moderate difficulty level while 5 were tough. Some of the questions were very tough here.
- Both the Paragraph type questions were not very tough but they were certainly tricky and required good problem solving skills.
