JEE aspirants need more CBSE facilitation centres

New Delhi: From this year, the application process for the JEE Main 2014 has gone completely online. Since the JEE Main exam is the only gateway to the IITs, NITs, IITs and other CFTIs, lakhs of students are going to register for it. To help them, CBSE has set up facilitation centres across India that will help students to fill up their forms and submit their photographs, signatures, documents and fees online for free.

States like Maharashtra and Gujarat that have adopted JEE Mains as an entrance test to their engineering colleges have been allotted more facilitation centres than the other states. Maharashtra has 38 facilitation centres while Gujarat has 30 facilitation centres.

However, other states are struggling with the shortage of CBSE facilitation centres that can help their JEE aspirants. Since JEE Main is a national-level test, IIT and NIT aspirants across India are going to sit for the exam, irrespective of the state policy.

Tamil Nadu, which saw 40,000 students registering for the exam last year, has only eight facilitation centres – three in Chennai and one each in Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli and Vellore.
Kerala is also facing shortage of facilitation centres with no centres in Erode, Karur, Namakkal, Salem and Villupuram.
States like Delhi, Bihar and UP have also requested for more facilitation centres for JEE aspirants.
The application process for JEE Main 2014 began on November 15 and will go on till December 26.
