Rohit Singh, 18-year old IIT JEE aspirant, hung himself from a ceiling fan in his room at Kota. He hailed from Gopalganj district in Bihar and was staying in the city with his parents and two siblings to prepare for the JEE exam next year. In his suicide note, Rohit held himself responsible for taking the extreme step.
The body of the IIT aspirant was recovered from his apartment on Baran Road day before yesterday. The police are still trying to determine whether the teenager committed suicide due to stress of his studies or any other reason.
Rohit’s mother and neighbours told the police that the student went in his room to study on Saturday morning. When he didn’t come out till 7 pm, they entered his room to find him hanging from the fan. His father was not in the city at the time. Rohit’s body was placed in the mortuary and the post-mortem was to be conducted after the return if his father.
A case under section 174 of CrPC has been lodged in the case. On June 7, 2015, 17-year old Sarthak Yadav – AIPMT aspirant preparing for the exam in Kota had committed suicide due to study pressure. Four days before date, 18-year old girl from Jharkhand also hung herself in the girls’ hostel in Kota unable to face pressure of AIPMT coaching.
It is high time parents and coaching institutes in Kota start taking the situation seriously to keep IIT aspirants and AIPMT aspirants going off the steep edge due to study pressure.
