Rs 20 lakh each for 21 students who were denied MBBS seats

According to the sources, the Supreme Court has ordered the state government to pay a compensation of Rs. 20 lakhs each to the 21 medical aspirants who couldn’t take admission in MBBS despite having the required scores due to the college authority.

Reportedly in 2012, these 21 eligible candidates couldn’t secure a seat in MBBS because of the college authorities of private medical college. Students had reported to the state government but no appropriate action was taken by it.

Pursuing their ‘eligible seats’ for the past two years,these aspirants lost the opportunity to pursue MBBS that year as admissions could be approved only till September 30 of the relevant year and cannot be carried forward. Advocate Pravin Satale who represented PNS said, “Though the students had only demanded seats in their appeal, the court took suo motu decision on compensating them for the loss of opportunity.”
