Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur is amongst the prime educational institutions of the country being established by the Government of India. With an aim to conduct original research of the highest standard, provide meaningful education and to provide leadership in technological innovation for the need of the industrial growth of the nation the institute was established in the year 1959, IITK is also one of the first Indian Institutes of Technology. Initially the institute has its operations from the campus of Harcourt Butler Technological Institute and later on shifted to the sprawling residential campus at Kanpur.

The entrance examination to get seats in IIT Kanpur is based on the ranks of IIT JEE. Before appearing for the IIT JEE, students are required to confirm their class 12th board marks with the concerned board and authorities.
