The National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur was earlier known as the Regional Institute of Technology and was given the status of an NIT in 2002. The institution was among the first 8 Regional Engineering Colleges in the country. NIT Jamshedpur has 12 departments with 120 faculty and 3,000 students. The University environment is extremely vibrant, with a very large number of clubs, societies and activities such as the NIT Jamshedpur techfest for the students. It has a computer center, central digital library, central workshop, dispensary, technology students’ gymkhana, central store, bank, post office, canteens and various other amenities on campus. The NIT Jamshedpur campus also has eleven hostels to accommodate students.
