Guard cells usually open at the time when the plant is performing photosynthesis. So guard cells are open at day as there is sunlight for doing photosynthesis.
But guard cells are closed at night as there is no sunlight for doing photosynthesis.

But in some other websites it is given that they are open at night too, as they are still breathing at night too......So which is TRUE??
