Mutation theory was put forward by a Dutch scientist, Hugo de Vries. According to a theory, mutations are cumulated over generations, Hugo de Vries regarded mutations as the raw material for evolution. Mutants are markedly different form parents and there is no intermediate stages in course of evolution. Mutations are not subjected to natural selection, however later (natural selections) works on mutation, preserves the mutants having useful mutations and eradicates the mutants with harmful mutations.
