Detergents contain few amount of active ingredients and remaining are sodium sulphate, inorganic phosphates, foaming agents. Phosphates from detergents assist algae and weeds to grow in water, which depleted oxygen for sea animals. It also changes the ph of water .Hence, detergents cause water pollution.

Some detergents are non biodegradable, they remain in water bodies for a long time and make water unfit for drinking and also causes rapid growth of algae which leads to reduction of oxygen in water bodies and the aquatic animal feel suffocation.
