- Sodium chloride with concentrated sulphuric acid in a round-bottomed flasksubjected to heating will produce hydrogen chloride gas. This hydrogen chloride is passed through a drying agent and is collected by upward displacement of air.
NaCl + H2SO4 → NaHSO4 + HCl
Sulphuric acid is used as adrying agent for purifying hydrogen chloride gas.
Calcium oxide is alkaline and HCL is acidic. The two react to form calcium chloride and water. Instead of dry HCL, you will end up with calcium chloride.
Phosphorous pentaoxide (P
2O
5) will also react with Hcl to form POCl
