Dear student,
Bohr proposed that electrons do not radiate energy as they orbit or circle the nucleus, but exist in states of constant energy, which he called stationary states. This means that the electrons orbit at fixed distances from the nucleus.
Each stationary state corresponds to a particular set of electron orbits around the nucleus. These states are distinct and can be numbered as n=1,2,3,4... and so on. Here, n is the principal quantum number, also called the shell number.
