Dear student,
The atomic number of oxygen is 8. The mass of an atom is given by the sum of the number of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus. Also, the atomic number is the number of protons present in the nucleus. Since the number of neutrons present in oxygen is 8, hence the atomic number of O is 8.
