an electric fuse is a metalstrip or wire made up of solder which has a verylow melting point.the fuse blows or melts when excessive current passes thru the circuit, hence blocking the circuit. this prevents short circuit.

A fuse is a gadget that is found in every electrical appliance that protects the appliance from electrical surges. A fuse usually breaks the connection or circuit whenever there is too much current thus protecting the wiring and the appliance. The wire in the fuse melts up whenever there is too much current thus breaking off the circuit.
