because of empty 3d orbitals present in them it forms p4

Nitrogen has small size and high electronegativity so forms multiple p(pi)-p(pi) bonds. So it exists as N2 with triple bond between 2 N atoms. Phosphorus has large size and less electronegative so doesn't form multiple p(pi)-p(pi) bonds and so exists as P4 having single bonds between 2 P atoms.
