The metal which forms a volatile compound is nickel and it is extracted by taking advantage of this property.Such process is called as vapour phase refining in which metal is converted to an volatile compound while the impurities remain unaffected.The compound formed later on decomposes on haeting to give pure metal.
In case of nickel ,it is heated in a steam of carbon monoxide to form volatile nickel carbonyl NiCO4.This on thermal decomposition at higher temperature450-470K give pure nickel.
Ni + 4CO -----------> NiCO4 ----------> Ni + 4CO
This refining of Ni is called as Mond process.Thus the option 3 Ni will be the correct answer.
