Similar to d1metal complexes, d9octahedral metal complexes have2D spectral term. The transition is fromthe (t2g)6(eg)3configuration (2Egstate) to the (t2g)5(eg)4configuration (2T2gstate). This could also be described as a positive "hole" that moves from the egto the t2gorbital set.
