no. of divisors of a number =n ..then find the no. of proper divisors of the number?
 
in some places ,it is given n-1; (excluding n)
 
in some other it is given n-2;(Excluding 1 and n).
 
which one is correct??

the correct answer is n – 1, in which only n is excluded.
1 is ALWAYS a proper divisor of every positive integer n, except for n= 1 as in that case 1 and n are identical. so 1 has NO proper divisor. 
eg. proper divisors of 6 are: 1, 2. 3
