any methyl or ethyl gruop substituted down the carbon chain must be considered as methyl or ethyl but not in naming the suffix like but or pent?

Dear student, these are substituent and not the main carbon chain. In IUPAC system the naming is done according to this way: Prefix-root word-suffix. The root word is the main chain of carbon and the substituents are writtenas prefix. The functionasl group is written as the suffix.
