stephen reaction is used to prepare the aldehyde from nitriles and cyanide ,
the reduction of nitriles with stanous chloride and hydrogen chloride with ethyl acetate solvent produces imine intermediate. The hydrolysis of this intermediate with water gives the corresponding aldehyde.
example – methyl cyanide to acetaldehyde preparation .
HOPE IT CLEARS YOUR DOUBT ,
U CAN REFER TO THE ASKIITIAN STUDY MATERIAL FOR THE SAME , GO THROUGH IT AND IN CASE ANY DOUBT ASK IT IN FORUMS .
THE MECHANISM OF THIS REACTION IS TOO IMPORTANT ..
