It is known that Grignard reagent reacts with even traces of water to form hydrocarbons. Therefore what is the reason for adding water in the reaction given in the image? This reaction is in the NCERT class 12 textbook part 2. It is a method of preparing alcohols from carbonyl compounds and Grignard reagent.

H2O is hust acting for the grignard as a solvent for mixing the solute and to make the reaction to react vigorously.
As polar protic solvent is more favorable and also serves as a catalyst for the reaction.
