When the alkali metals are dissolved in liquid ammonia, it forms the ammoniated metal ion and ammoniated electrons in the manner as: M + NH3-> M+(NH3)x+ e-(NH3)y, Here, teh ammoniated electrons absorbs the visiblelight corresponding to red region and so the colour reflected is deep blue.
