How is ‘cast iron’ different from ‘pig iron”?

Pig iron is the form of iron which is obtained from blast furnace. It is an impure form of iron as it contains approximately 4% carbon and other also impurities ( S, P, Si, Mn, etc) in small amounts.



Cast iron is the form of iron which is formed by melting pig iron with scrap iron and coke using hot air blast. This form of iron is It is extremely hard and brittle.
It has slightly lesser carbon content (3% approximately).

Pig iron-The iron produces from blast furnace is pig iron.It contains 4% carbon and small amount of Si, P.Cast iron-The iron is obtained by melting pig iron with scrap iron and coke using hot air. It contains 3% carbon. It is very hot.
