Bond energy is the energy required to break a bond.
Answer to numerical:
Energy given to Iodine molecule = hc/λ, (where the variables have their usual meanings)
= 6.62 × 10-34 × 3 × 108 ÷ 4500× 10-10 ( converting into SI units)
=4.417 × 10-19 J
now, energy used for breaking up one iodine molecule = 240 × 103 ÷ 6.023 × 10 23 =3.984× 10-19 J
(as Bond energy is given in per mole and we have to find out per molecule)
Energy used in imperting Kinetic energy to two I atoms = [4.417 -3.984] × 10 -19 J
so K.E per iodine atom = [4.417-3.984/2] × 10-19
= 0.216 × 10-19 J
