What is meant by gamma in an adiabatic process ( thermodynamic processes)

gamma is defined as the ratio between the specific heat capaacity at constant pressure divided specific heat capacity at constant volume,
                                                               \gamma =\frac{C_{p}}{C_{v}}
The value gamma varies with the type of gas.
For example the value of gamma for monoatomic gas is
                                                     \gamma =\frac{3}{2}R
It basically depends on the Degree of Freedom(f) of a gas.
T o find the value of gamma (\gamma) you can also use the following relation
                                                 C_{p}-C_{v}=R
For adiabatic process you can also use this relation
                                PV^{\gamma} = constant
