The bending of lights path from one medium to another medium is called refraction due to this we see pencil bent when immersed in water

Refraction is nothing but the change in direction of a wave due to a change in its transmission medium.so these is called refraction.

Refraction: The change in speed of wave as the ray of light goes one metirial to another causes the ray deviated the incident direction.
