Why do we need to look at previous years' JEE Advanced question papers?

 

By solving JEE Advanced previous years' question papers, aspirants can:

 

  1. Understand the examination pattern and the marking scheme: The JEE Advanced 2022 exam will have two compulsory papers. Both the papers will have three sections - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Aspirants can get an idea of the type of questions asked in each section by solving JEE Advanced past year papers.

In the JEE Advanced 2022 exam, each paper will have 54 questions and students will get 180 minutes or 3 hours to solve them. Each paper will carry a total of 183 marks. Hence, the JEE Advanced exam will be worth 306 marks in total. Students can choose to take the exam in English or Hindi.

 

JEE Advanced 2022-2023 Paper 1 exam pattern is the same for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each of them will have three sections:

  • Section 1 will have 6 MCQs with a single correct option. Each MCQ will carry 3 marks. If you answer it incorrectly, there's a penalty of 1 mark. In total, this section is worth 18 marks.
  • Section 2 will have 6 MCQs with one or more correct options. Each MCQ will carry 4 marks. If all the four options are correct and you choose only three, you will get 3 marks. If three or more options are correct and you choose only two, you will get 2 marks. If two or more options are correct and you choose only one, you will get 1 mark. If you choose the wrong option, there's a penalty of 2 marks. In total, this section is worth 24 marks.
  • Section 3 has 6 questions with numerical value answers. Each of these questions will carry 4 marks. There's no negative marking in this section, so you may use guesswork here. In total, this section is worth 24 marks.

 

JEE Advanced 2022-2023 Paper 2 question paper pattern is the same for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. They also have three sections:

  • Section 1 will have 6 MCQs with one or more correct options. Each MCQ will carry 4 marks. If all the four options are correct and you choose only three, you will get 3 marks. If three or more options are correct and you choose only two, you will get 2 marks. If two or more options are correct and you choose only one, you will get 1 mark. If you choose the wrong option, there's a penalty of 2 marks. In total, this section is worth 24 marks.
  • Section 2 will have 6 numerical answer type questions. Each of these questions will carry 4 marks. There's no negative marking in this section, so you may use guesswork here. In total, this section is worth 24 marks.
  • Section 3 has 6 questions with single-digit integer answers (0-9). Each of these questions will carry 3 marks. If you answer it incorrectly, there's a penalty of 1 mark here. In total, this section is worth 18 marks.

 

  1. Analyse the difficulty level: The difficulty level of the JEE Advanced exam has been steadily increasing over the years. By solving past years' JEE Advanced papers, aspirants can get an idea of what to expect in the upcoming exam.
