JEE Advanced 2013 reports claimed that most students had not attempted maximum number of questions in Mathematics, which led to a question on their numerical abilities – considered a must for engineering aspirants.
However, students claimed that this was a result of Mathematics being the last section in the exam. Hence, there has been a call to put Mathematics as the first section of the paper, which should be followed by Physics section and then, Chemistry section.
Here is the analysis of marks obtained by students in JEE (Advanced) 2013:
Total marks: 360
Highest marks obtained by student(s): 332
Lowest marks obtained by student(s): -70 (due to negative marking in JEE Advanced)
300 students scored over 300 marks this year while 326 students scored over 250 marks.
69.6% students appearing for IIT JEE 2013 were taking JEE for the first time. Last year, 80% students were taking IIT JEE 2012 for the first time. This shows that the number of students attempting to crack the exam for the second time has gone up significantly.
IIT JEE 2012 was the last time when it was conducted as the separate exam. This year, IIT JEE 2013 was conducted as the JEE Advanced for the first time on June 2, 2013.
The students who attempted IIT JEE for the second time in 2013 showed preference for IITs in the following order:
44.6% students preferred IIT Roorkee,
38.6% students preferred IIT Kanpur,
32.7% students preferred IIT Delhi, and
29.6% students preferred IIT Bombay.
There were 10 versions of JEE Advanced 2013 – from 0 to 9. Each version had two papers. The total marks for the paper and the number of questions in the paper were same for both the papers but the type of questions differed.
In total there were 60 questions in the paper worth 180 marks. There were 20 questions on Physics were followed by 20 questions on Chemistry and then came 20 questions on Mathematics. Each subjects carried a total of 60 marks.
Questions on each subject were divided into three sections:
