The IIT is likely to introduce a new global ranking system, which will judge and rate students according to their performances on several parameters. This will help students enroll to engineering institutes that best suit their requirements.
“The move will help students identify institutes that have the best resources for specific courses, especially in niche areas,” said Narayanan Ramaswamy, Partner, Education Practice, KPMG.
The prominent parameters of the institutes that will be taken into account for the assessment include the courses offered by the institutes, proficiency of faculty, lab and research facilities, placements and constitution of batches, among others.
The step is taken after the widespread demand of taking Indian Educational Institutes on a global platform to prove their mettle.
The officials at Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry state that IITs must adhere to a range of parameters that are integral considerations in global education rankings such as QS World University Ranking, Shanghai (Academic Ranking of World Universities) and Times University Ranking.
