Central Board of Secondary EducationHaving its roots in the Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Rajputana formed in 1929, the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE got its present name in 1952. All the government schools in Delhi, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Island, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal and Chhatisgarh are affiliated to the CBSE board. There are schools outside India too that have CBSE affiliation.

CBSE board is also responsible for conducting major medical entrance exam in India – NEET (AIPMT) , and major engineering entrance exam in India – JEE Main.  Naturally, CBSE syllabus is aligned with the syllabuses of these exams. This is one of the main reasons why this education board is so popular in India and Indian students living abroad.

CBSE Class 10 Board Exams

Over 13 lakh Class X students across 12,871 schools registered for CBSE board exams 2015. About 8 lakh students were boys while 5.35 lakh students were girls.

The examinations were conducted in March. Class 10 students had a choice of taking internal school-based board exams or external board exams. CBSE result for both types of exams is expected to be released on CBSE official site between May or June 2015.

CBSE Class 12 Board Exams

CBSE marksheet for Class 12 will significantly impact one's chances to make it to a medical or engineering college of their choice. Hence, students are waiting for it eagerly. The speculation is that CBSE results for Class 12 board exams will be released region-wise from May onwards and all results will be declared by first week of June.

This year more than 10 lakh students across 8,602 schools appeared for Class 12 board examination registering a rise of over 9% in number of students who had appeared for the exams last year. Out of these, about 6 lakh were boys while about 4.26 lakh were girls.

The examinations were held in March and extended to April due to Lok Sabha Elections.
