NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 2 Ex 2.3 are based on the division algorithm of Polynomials. In this exercise, you are given two different polynomials. You have to divide them and find the quotient and the remainder respectively. The NCERT Solutions for this exercise are created by askIITians experts with an aim to provide students with guidance in solving every question of the exercise. These solutions are a free study guide for the students that they can refer to at any time. The solutions inculcate the habit of independent learning amongst the students. Let us see what is included in this exercise in detail and solve it.
According to the Division Algorithm of Polynomials
For any polynomial p(x) and any non-zero polynomial g(x), there are polynomials q(x) and r(x) such that:
p(x) = g(x) q(x) + r(x),
where r(x) = 0 or degree r(x) < degree g(x).
You must know that:
Steps involved in dividing one polynomial by another:
Step 1: First, you have to obtain the first term of the quotient. For that, you need to divide the highest degree term of the dividend by the highest degree term of the divisor. Then you can carry out the division process. What remains becomes the new dividend.
Step 2: Now, you have to divide the highest degree term of the new dividend by the highest degree term of the divisor and obtain the second term of the quotient.
Step 3: This process goes on until you get a new dividend whose degree is less than the given divisor and you cannot divide the polynomial any further.
You can also check whether your answer is correct or not by using the formula:
Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Remainder
Types of questions included in Class 10 Maths Chapter 2 Polynomials Ex 2.3:
Ex 2.3 Q1: In the first question of this exercise, you are given two polynomials p(x) and g(x) respectively. You have to find the quotient and remainder obtained when p(x) is divided by g(x). This question includes 3 subparts.
Ex 2.3 Q2: In the second question you have to check whether the first polynomial is a factor of the second polynomial by dividing the second polynomial by the first polynomial. This question also includes three subparts. We have provided stepwise solutions of all three parts.
Ex 2.3 Q3: In this question, you are given a polynomial and two of its zeroes. You have to obtain all the remaining zeros. Do you know how to solve this question? Check our NCERT Solutions in case you have any doubts.
Ex 2.3 Q4: In this question, you are given the quotient, remainder and the dividend. You have to find the divisor. You can easily solve this question by applying the formula Dividend = Divisor × Quotient + Remainder. In case you have any doubt, just refer to our NCERT Solutions.
Ex 2.3 Q5: In this question, you have to think about the examples of polynomials that satisfy the division algorithm and the given situations.
This is an important exercise from the exam point of view. You must solve this exercise by taking care of the calculations. Sometimes students make mistakes in copying the exponents or arithmetic signs in the polynomials which give them wrong answers. So, it is not only important to understand the division algorithm of polynomials but it is also important to practise the exercise questions so that you do not make any silly mistakes in the exam.
